When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.

“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food” This medical marvel was coined by Hippocrates, almost 2500 years ago. Food is nature’s medicine, without the side effects. So why are we all so confused by what to eat? It’s not your fault. In fact, it is by design, the food industry, our government, and the media are all sending us conflicting messages. Should you be vegan and eat like a gorilla, or paleo and eat like a hunter gatherer? Should you eat lots of grains and beans, or cut out all grains and beans and eat like a caveman? Should you drink three glasses of milk a day like the government tells us to do, or should we avoid ALL dairy because it causes cancer, autoimmune disease, and actually increases your chance of fractures? I mean, with all the conflicting advice and nutrition whiplash it’s enough to say ”The hell with it all, pass the french fries!”

In my humble opinion, our society suffers from “One Solution Syndrome”, This is the false belief that THERE IS ONE SOLUTION FOR EVERYONE. One medicine for a disease, one way a person should eat, and just one set of practices that keep you healthy. Using food as medicine starts by changing your approach to food from that of restriction to introduction. Introduction of the right foods for your body. There are other factors that add up to good health, such as good sleep, managing stress, and exercise, but what we put into our bodies is the foundation. It’s hard not to notice, everything we read, watch and listen to presents evidence on the association between nutrition and chronic disease or illness. Healthy food is an important part of your life and there are plenty of ideas and concepts swirling around about what is and what’s not good for you. Yoga with Elvis hopes to provide insight into how and why changing one’s food habits and being more knowledgeable can have a HUGE effect on your health and well-being.
